How to Create Good Habits

People rely too heavily on Motivation to make things happen.  I hear it all the time. “I just can’t stay motivated.” “How do you stay motivated?”  “Maybe this will keep me motivated.” Blah blah blah.

Though I get it - because those were things I used to say too (and sometimes still do) - the fact is that you CANNOT wait for motivation to start living a better and healthier life!  If you do, chances are you’ll continue to live your status quo or possibly become less happy and healthy as you get further and further from your goals.

So I wanted to share a few tips inspired by ATOMIC HABITS by James Clear.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Make it Obvious: Put your program calendar in an obvious place!  Mine’s on the kitchen wall - in plain sight telling me what workout is up for the day.

  • Make it Attractive: The BE 100 Book is so dang cute! It’ll make you want to fill it out.  Also, crossing things off feels good no matter what you’re doing - then you can see and celebrate your progress! !

  • Make it Easy: HELLO!  You don’t have to go anywhere to get your workout in!  Set your clothes out the night before and prep anything else that needs to be ready. The less brain power you can use in the morning to do something you really don’t want to do, the better chance you’ll have at getting it done!  Plus - if you prep at night (set out clothes, set up your workout space, make your breakfast, pack your lunch) your brain is already thinking about healthy choices BEFORE you go to bed!

  • Make it Satisfying: Starting your day with an accomplishment will ALWAYS set you off with the right mentality for the day!  YOU did something for YOU and that’s going to feel really freakin good - I promise!

These four principals can apply to ANY HABIT you’re wanting to create - not just working out! So I challenge you:

What HABIT would help you live a happier and healthier life?  Keep it simple. How can you make it obvious, attractive, easy & satisfying?

If you’re having a hard time coming up with things, I’d love to help you brainstorm ideas so you can be successful!

P.S. Morning Meltdown 100 is an awesome program to help you start building the perfect morning routine! Get in touch if you're interested and we'll figure out if it's right for YOU!
